My Little Tragedy is a participatory video installation by Nullshima Studio centered on a washed-up My Little Pony toy recovered after the 2019 MSC Zoe container spill. Displayed on a large horizontal screen, the eroded plastic pony appears tangled with sand, shells, and sea debris as it addresses audiences directly, recounting its journey through global systems of production, consumption, and waste. Over a 13-minute loop, the work shifts into an awkward karaoke performance, inviting viewers to sing along to a celebratory list of everyday plastic products.

Combining 3D animation, responsive sound, interactive lighting, and audience participation, the installation transforms plastic pollution from an abstract environmental issue into a shared physical encounter. Humour, rhythm, and collective performance create a sense of playful unease, asking audiences to consider how plastic has embedded itself within oceans, homes, and bodies alike, and whether this material’s extraordinary success should be admired, resisted, or mourned.
